2017 Dodge Durango at Clear Lake for Houston, TX

The 2017 Dodge Durango is not your average SUV. It’s an intimidating vehicle, with bold, brawny styling and an aggressive powertrain. In the world of three-row crossover SUVs, the Durango offers more space and more towing capability than other competitors. Alongside the Durango’s ample power is a cabin filled with features, including the available sought-after Uconnect 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system. An all-new trim, GT, has been released for the 2017 model year and replaces the Limited, and the base SXT can now be ordered with just two rows of seats for optimal cargo room. The Durango is a great contender for a family vehicle, a workhorse, or for anyone who really just wants a large SUV. To learn more about what powertrains reside under the hood and the features you’ll find in the Durango, keep reading!

Under the Durango’s Hood

The standard engine for all Durangos excluding the R/T is a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6. It ramps up and puts out 290 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque unless you have the Citadel trim or Blacktop package, in which case the horsepower is bumped up to 295. This engine conserves fuel with an automatic start-stop system that shuts down the engine when the Durango is stopped. Every Durango is linked up to an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends all the power to the rear-wheels, although all-wheel drive is available. Fuel economy is impressive at 21 mpg combined, reaching up to 26 mpg on the highway with rear-wheel drive or 25 mpg highway with all-wheel drive. This standard powertrain can tow up to 6,200 pounds. Alternatively, the R/T comes standard with a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine that pumps out 360 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque. The Citadel can also be equipped with this engine as well. If equipped with all-wheel drive, a low-range transfer case is included for off-road performance. This powertrain has even more towing power, reaching up to 7,400 pounds!

Design of Dodge Durango

Whether you opt for the spacious three-row configuration or the even roomier two-row configuration offered on the SXT, the Durango is built to impress. Standard is seven-passenger seating, although captain’s chairs can decrease this to six while increasing passenger comfort dramatically. The two-row Durango offers seating for five. Cargo capacity for the Durango can reach up to 84.5 cubic feet. There are four total trim levels for this model year Durango: SXT, GT, Citadel, and R/T. Base features include 18-inch alloy wheels, tri-zone climate control, foglamps, automatic headlamps, a 5-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth phone connectivity, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, heated mirrors, and more.
